Results: Match 1: Sharjah: Australia won by 8 wickets | Match 2: Sharjah: Australia won by 8 wickets | Match 3: Abu Dhabi: Australia won by 80 runs | Match 4: Dubai: Australia won by 6 runs | Match 5: Dubai: Australia won by 20 runs |
Australia: They will be the happiest of the two teams without a doubt. They would be extremely delighted having won the series in India and now whitewashing the series in UAE. It puts them back in the contention for the World Cup. Warner among the runs and Steve Smith getting some match time in IPL only adds to their hopes.
Positives: Aaron Finch’s form is the most delighting news for himself and the team in general. With Warner and Smith likely to knock the doors, his inclusion in the side as a captain would have made things complicated. He justifies his position. Glen Maxwell had an on-off series recently but he performed when it mattered the most.
Pakistan: With no Sarfaraz Khan and Umar Akmal making a comeback, Pakistan seems to not move much forward. As many as 4 players made debut for the team during this series. A not so happy tradition with only less than two months left for the World Cup and no more series to follow.
Positives: Harris Sohail is often left under the radar with the other stars drawing the attention. This is a wonderful series to him. Having scored 291 runs with two centuries will boost his confidence. Mohammad Rizwan’s most important series till date. With Sarfaraz and Umar Akmal now making a comeback, his wicket keeping talent is not the sole thing that could keep him in contention.
Team of the Series: Aaron Finch (c) | Usman Khawaja | Harris Sohail | Mohammad Rizwan (wk) | Glen Maxwell | Peter Handscomb | Imad Wasim | Nathan Coulter-Nile | Usman Shinwari | Adam Zampa | Nathan Lyon |
Openers: Aaron Finch and Usman Khawaja easily occupy the opening slot with occasional failure from Khawaja not compensated by Abid Ali’s dream debut.
Middle Order: Harris Sohail made #3 position his own this series for either side. Mohammad Rizwan, Glen Maxwell, Peter Handscomb make the remaining three slots. Imad Wasim filling the floater role.
All rounders and Bowlers: Usman Shinwari is the only happy bowler for Pakistan. Making debut in this series, he had his moments in the series. Nathan Coulter-Nile has been magnificent in this series. He could be the leader of the pack for Australia despite Starc’s return. Adam Zampa and Nathan Lyon take up the spin positions.
